★ Mehdi Hassan Biography
Mehdi Hassan (1927–2012), the Shahenshah-e-Ghazal (King of Ghazal), was a master of the Urdu poetic form. Known as the “Voice of God” (a title given by Lata Mangeshkar), he recorded over 50,000 ghazals and performed in nearly 300 films. He sang ghazal, Thumri, Dhrupad, and playback songs. His numerous honours include the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Pride of Performance, and Nepal’s Gorkha Dakshina Bahu.
