Obaidullah Aleem (1939–1998) was a famous and highly-ranked poet of modern Urdu ghazals. Born in India, he moved to Pakistan and earned a master’s degree in Urdu from Karachi University. He worked as a producer for Radio Pakistan and PTV before political circumstances forced his resignation in 1978. His very first book of poetry, Chand Chehra Sitara Ankhhen, was highly acclaimed and won the prestigious Adamji Prize.
