Parveen Shakir (1952–1994) was a highly esteemed Pakistani poet, teacher, and civil servant who worked in the customs department and the Central Board of Revenue. Born in Karachi, she started writing poetry as a child under the pen name “Beena”. She was known for her modern, feminist, emotional, and romantic verse. She published several popular collections, including Khushbu, and obtained a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University in 1991.
