Shahnaz Begum (1952–2019), born in Dhaka, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), was a celebrated singer best known for her powerful renditions of Pakistani national anthems like “Sohni Dharti” and “Jeevay Pakistan”. Her career spanned five decades, earning her Bangladesh’s second-highest civilian award, the Ekushey Padak in 1992. Her songs were also ranked on the BBC’s list of top 20 greatest Bengali songs of all time.
